A student residence will vary depending on the school. Often, residence accommodation comprises individual or twin rooms that share a kitchen, bathrooms and living area. Similar to a shared apartment but with more rooms and usually designed to cater for university students. Some residences will provide meals, others will work on a self catering basis. You will be responsible for cleaning your room but communal areas are usually cleaned once a week. You will have your own room unless you have requested to share a twin room with a friend.
